DESCRIPTION OF OLTC POWER TRANSFORMER
OLTC Power Transformer is a specially designed transformer that it is equipped with an on load tap changer
The on load tap changer allows operation under transformer excitation or load conditions to change the tap connection position of the transformer winding, thereby changing the number of turns of the winding, i.e. the voltage ratio of the transformer, and achieving the purpose of voltage regulation.
During the switching process, as tap replacement occurs during the load period, it is necessary to ensure that the current flowing to the load is not interrupted while avoiding short circuits when switching from one tap to another. To achieve this, the on load tap changer introduces a transition circuit (usually a resistor) to limit the circulating current that may occur during the switching process, ensuring that it remains within the allowable range.
