Hydropower, also known as hydroelectric power, utilizes the potential energy of water located at higher elevations (such as rivers and lakes) flowing to lower elevations. This energy is converted into kinetic energy by water turbines, which then drive generators to produce electricity. In a sense, hydropower involves the transformation of water’s potential energy into mechanical energy and subsequently into electrical energy. Since hydropower plants typically generate electricity at low voltages, they require transformers to step up the voltage for transmission to distant users. The electricity is then transmitted via overhead power lines to substations in user-concentrated areas, where it is further stepped down to voltages suitable for household and industrial equipment.
